Oct 28, 2015 Question: Q: El Capitan stuck on install I've tried to download and install El Capitan on my Early 2008 MacBookPro. Which according to Apple should still support the update. Jan 10, 2019 Hi, Im trying to reinstall El CApitan on my 2008 iMac and i get errors. Namely, 'this item is temporarily unavaiable' and sometimes 'this boot disk is corrupt'. I formatted my usb drive in order to get around the corrupt message. However I dont know where I can get legitimate usb image of El.
Okay so here's the latest. I've not been successful so far installing Yosemite using a partitioned drive, as El Capitan prevents the App Store DL link for Yosemite (I DL'd from App Store directly) as it says 'this dl is too old to run on this OS X'. I've been on the phone with Apple since yesterday. We've determined that to create a bootable version of Yosemite, the DL needs to be offloaded via USB key or EHD, a formatted USB key/EHD created and then a Terminal adjustment made to the installer inside ElCap
sudo /Applications/Install OS X Yosemite.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install OS X Yosemite.app --nointeraction) which creates a version of the Installer that will open and 'hypothetically' will allow you elect either the USB drive, or the partitioned drive created earlier. This process is making my head spin, and now after I created a partition drive, and followed the steps in Terminal, I'm not getting ' /volumes/untitled is not a valid volume mount point ' So I'm back at square one. Any ideas/thoughts?
I've tried to download and install El Capitan on my Early 2008 MacBookPro. Which according to Apple should still support the update. Everything downloaded and install went through all the way to the end and I get a huge error log in the background and it says something generic like 'El Capitan cannot be installed.' It then asks if I want to reinstall El Capitan which I've tried several times with the same result. When I restart in Recovery Mode everything appears to be the new El Cap interface. I was able to do a full backup of my hard drive to an external from Disk Utility. I read and tried several of the 'fixes' from Apple Support Community but nothing seems to work. I'm assuming my only option is to now do a clean install, however, when I go to the Internet it won't let me open the App Store, so I can't download a fresh copy onto an external drive. I'm not even sure if that is necessary. I'm not sure what to do now as I don't want to erase my HD before I have a solution. Also, I cannot seem to boot in safe mode either. Help Please! I can't believe Apple would release this botched software update! Now my computer is useless.
